Privacy Policy This Privacy Policy applies to the "FoodLog" food logging and analysis service operated by Foo.log Inc. ("the Service"). As an operator of an information service related to lifelogging and closely connected with customers' personal information and private lives, Foo.log Inc., based on the basic principle of Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information, "personal information should be handled cautiously under the philosophy of respect respecting the personalities of individuals," is aware that the appropriate, rigorous management and protection of customers' personal information in the Service ("Personal Information ") is both a legal obligation and a social duty, and at the same time, is the most important requisite for gaining the trust of customers in service provision. Foo.log Inc. handles Personal Information on the basis of the following policy. 1. All relevant laws regarding the handling of Personal Information shall be observed. When handling Personal Information in the Service, Foo.log Inc. shall comply with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information and other related laws, and shall handle such information appropriately in accordance with customs relating to the handling of Personal Information that are generally recognized as fair and appropriate. Also, Foo.log Inc. shall continue working to enhance handling of such information in response to changes in the legal and social environment. 2. Information in the Service corresponding to Personal Information is considered as information from which it is possible to identify a specific individual. In principle, Foo.log Inc. judges applicability to Personal Information as follows. - Information handled under the Personal Information category --- The combination of account ID and password for using the Service --- Email address for contacting or notifying the customer --- The combination of the date of birth and detailed address --- Account information and passwords, etc. necessary for using services provided by other companies that are linked with the Service (Linked Services) The following information is handled as important information similar to Personal Information. --- Location information included in food photographs (only in cases where exact location can be determined by GPS and the customer has also specified that the information should be kept private) - Information handled that does not come under the Personal Information category (only in cases where the information is handled in a way that does not link it to Personal Information) --- Recorded food photographs and information recorded in such photographs (except location information) --- Profile information such as year of birth, sex, occupation, address (to the extent that can be determined from a postal code) --- Information on body measurements such as weight, height, and body fat percentage --- Information of customer habits such as approximate meal times --- Other information in the Service, regardless of whether it is published, such as that input or posted by the customer in an area not specified as "Not classified as Personal Information" If Personal Information is included among information that is handled as if "Not classified as Personal Information," the customer will delete such information according to a separately designated deletion procedure. If the procedure for deletion, etc. is not performed, the customer is considered to have given prior consent to handling such information as Not classified as Personal Information. 3. Personal Information will be collected and used for limited purposes only. In the Service, Personal Information will be collected for the following purposes. - For providing the Service (Including aftercare services, support, use for the purpose of enhancing the Service, and use in the development of new functions and services). - For the purpose of announcements and pamphlets concerning the Service provided by Foo.log Inc. and by other services, and for introducing new functions and special campaigns. - For the purpose of informing through advertising material (including, but not restricted to mail magazines, listing ads, banner ads, video ads, affiliate advertising) relating to the services of sponsor companies in Foo.log Inc.'s advertising operations and the services of business partners. (Personal Information is not provided to such companies. - For collating, analyzing, extracting, evaluating and other processes to produce statistical data based on the attributes of Personal Information (statistical data are processed in a manner that individuals cannot be identified or specified). Such data may be used and processed for developing new services, and for conducting linked business and other business with business partners. Statistical data may be provided to entities linked with Foo.log Inc.). - For development etc. of algorithms for FoodLog analysis, and for conducting research related to food culture and living habits (including publication as statistical data in research reports at academic conferences or in academic papers, etc.) The customer is considered to have given prior consent to disclosure to third parties viewing the Service of customer ID and nickname, and to profile information and food photographs etc. not designated as information to be kept private. 4. Personal Information shall be managed in a safe and thorough manner. In order to prevent loss, damage, illegal transfer, or falsification of Personal Information, Foo.log Inc. will undertake all necessary and appropriate measures to ensure safe management of personal information. In order to ensure smooth operation, parts of the Service construction and operation work are delegated to outside companies. While Personal Information may be provided to these companies to the extent necessary for the performance of their functions, in such cases a contract will be executed to ensure the proper handling of such information, and such handling will be supervised. 5. Foo.log Inc. will not disclose or provide Personal Information to a third party, with the following exceptions: - In cases of outsourcing, as outlined in 4. - In cases where the permission of the individual has been obtained. - In other cases stipulated by law. 6. Responses shall be made to all requests regarding Personal Information. Foo.log Inc. will make every effort to maintain Personal Information in the Service in an accurate and up-to-date format. If a customer requests disclosure or amendment of Personal Information held regarding the customer, this will be undertaken upon confirmation of his or her identity. When a customer requests suspension of the use of, or deletion of the customer's Personal Information held in the Service such action will be taken to a reasonable extent and within a reasonable period of time, upon confirmation that the request was made directly by the relevant individual. The partial or complete suspension of use or deletion of such information may unfortunately result in being unable to provide the requested services to participants. (Moreover, in some cases the suspension of use or deletion of Personal Information may be constrained by the relevant laws and regulations.) 7. Inquiries about Personal Information are accepted Requests under 5. and other inquiries from customers concerning the handling of Personal Information are accepted at the contact email address for such inquiries. Contact: privacy@foo-log.co.jp * Handling of Personal Information on external sites linked to by the Service The Service has links to external sites, but responsibility for the handling of Personal Information on external sites and responsibility for secondary problems arising lies with the manager etc. of each individual external site linked to. Foo.log Inc. cannot accept any such responsibility.
